An oral surgeon who played a prank on his assistant by implanting fake boar tusks in her mouth, won $750,000 from his insurance company after the state Supreme Court sided with the dentist.

Dr. Robert Woo put fake boar tusks in his assistant's mouth while she was under anesthesia for another procedure. The doctor took pictures of her with the tusks in and then removed them before the women woke up. Eventually the assistant found out about the pictures, became angry and embarrassed, and then quit her job. After that she decided to sue Woo.

The doctor's insurance company, Fireman's Fund, refused to pay for the claim because they said the joke was not part of a dentist offices' normal business. Woo did not want to go to court so he settled with Tina Alberts for $250,000 and then sued his insurance company.

A King County Superior Court jury agreed that the insurance company should have covered the claim and awarded Woo with $750,000 from Fireman's Fund. The insurance company took the case to an appeals court which agreed with Fireman's Fund, but the state Supreme Court chose to let Woo keep the money he had been awarded.

The vote was 5-4, and one Justice stated that even though his joke was odd, it was still part of another dental procedure, so the insurance company is obligated to cover the costs.

I know it was just a silly joke, by the dentist. I could even imagine him having a good relationship with his assistant. I could had even seen her laughing it off and then trying to get him back. BUT, she didn't FEEL IT that way!

I don't know how that woman really looks, nor, how she actually feels about herself. I don't know their true office relationship, nor hers with others in the office.

After all, she doesn't know who may have copies of those pictures. She probably has a husband and kids, whose friends/associates could see those pics. She quit her whole job, yet, only received $250! ..After having to sue him for it! (And then he went and got his lawyer, and got that money right back via The Court!) Some remorse he felt!

I know that The Courts RULE, but, I feel that The Insurance Company was possibly ordered to pay more than just for the Dentist's actual charges for her designated procedure. It had to cost more for him to implant, then extract, those boar tusks, per his own childish choice.

Did he give her extra anesthesia? Because, his EXTRA personal procedureS, and his photo session, required more time for her to sleep! And if so, did all of that anesthesia pose a medical threat to her heart, that might show up later?

I don't know her age, but, will she have future problems obtaining employment, since she QUIT a job? Besides, I would be afraid to ever visit another Dentist's office, because of his (so called) PRANK! In fact, this would make me nervous around ALL Professionals, who'd have some type of authority/power over me, who I'd have to see!

That woman was totally wronged, on all ends,
but she only got Peanuts, and sent her merry way! While that grown, professional Dentist; who deliberately caused all of the WRONG, actually Got PAID! The Insurance Company lost out, and that innocent, unsuspecting, woman was given a couple of dollars, and then kicked out!

I wonder, does that Dentist have A WIFE and children; especially DAUGHTERS! This was not a PRANK! This was a total TRAVESTY & OUTRAGE to that innocent, ousted, pennies thrown at, devastated woman! And, the legal outcome of it is a complete scare to all of us!
